SUMMARY

Splintered is a fairy tale retelling of the imaginative tale of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. In this novel. we follow the story of Alyssa Gardner, the descendant of Alice Liddel, the muse for Carroll's famous tale. However, Alyssa soon learns that Wonderland isn't as imaginary as she hoped as she is thrown down the rabbit hole in hopes of breaking a curse placed on her family years ago.

REVIEW

My review for this book is two stars out of five. I was pretty disappointed in this novel, for a number of reasons. First, I will review the characters. Lets begin with Alyssa. My main issue with Alyssa is that she was not a Take Charge character. She was in Wonderland for one reason only: to break her family curse. But she doesn't take full charge of this matter, mainly because of the distraction the other two main characters supplied for her. which brings me to my next issue with this book: Jeb. I found jeb to be too overbearing with Alyssa. I feel that his protectiveness of Alyssa didn't let her take on Wonderland, or learn much about her family curse. And finally we have the re-imagined characters. I had a BIG problem with these characters, mainly because they weren't involved in the story that much, and the little time that we did have with them didn't let us know a whole lot about their story as a character. I would have liked to see them a bit more in this story, and have them serve a reasonable contributing part in the story. This brings me to the Re-imagined character Morpheus, who was originally the butterfly. I felt that Morpheus had potential, but wasn't living fully up to it. I felt Morpheus to be a frustrating character because his role was undecided. The whole book he is torn between being a good character or an evil character, and since we were already introduced to an antagonist earlier in the book, having this situation was pretty frustrating. Now lets discuss the plot. My main issue with the plot is that the romance was too interfering with the matter at hand, and that was Alyssa breaking the Family Curse. There are actually multiple aspects of the plot that popped up; we had the love triangle between the three main characters, the curse, and then we had Morpheus dumping Alyssa's so- called "Legacy" on her. But all of that just did not mix well together in my opinion. As for the writing style, I found it very unique. It was definitely different, and it does stand out from other fantasy novels; but I do feel that it was trying a bit too hard to make a new and odd, and frankly, nightmarish Wonderland.

CONCLUSION

So I would just like to remind everybody that just because I didn't find a book to be enjoyable doesn't mean you won't. I was pretty let down with this book, but if you want to give this book a try, then go for it because we all have different opinions. And if you happen to like this book, then please do not take this review offensively. As previously mentioned, we all have different opinions. Anyways, i hope you found this review enjoyable and thank you so much for reading. :)
