Summary:

Gu Miyoung is not your average teenager. She is a gumiho, a nine-tailed fox who must consume the gi of men to survive. Her whole life, Miyoung has guarded her secret by keeping everyone else at bay - until a stubborn boy named Jihoon crosses her path. When Miyoung loses her fox bead, her and Jihoon must work together to restore her soul and save her life. With enemies around every corner and the full moon fast approaching, the unlikely pair must find a solution to their predicament before Miyoung pays the price.

Plot:

No one wants to leave their comfort zone. Familiarity allows readers to feel secure; it is easier to select a book with a known author than one with an unfamiliar voice. But Cho reminds us why we need to take the chance. Wicked Fox presents readers with a refreshing take on urban fantasy with a blend of Korean folklore and contemporary. Cho presents her audience with a dynamic plot line; supernatural elements and astounding plot twists intertwine to create a breathtaking tale of love, loss, and sacrifice. All in all, Wicked Fox is an electric story that paves the way for a new, fiery voice in Young Adult Literature.

Characters:

Wicked Fox features a unique cast of characters. Each one holds a distinctive personality that fuels the story's perplexity as a whole. Miyoung's exclusive nature was balanced with Jihoon's acceptance; Somin's unfaltering loyalty was weighed out by Changwan's charisma. However, I would have enjoyed a stronger bond with the main characters. While I was able to develop a bond with Cho's eclectic cast, I felt that the connection between the reader and narrative voice could have been deeper.

Setting:

Cho's fantastical take on modern day Seoul was brilliant. Paranormal activity is blended seamlessly into South Korean culture, giving the audience a new take on mythology. Neither aspect of the setting overpowered the other; each one complemented the other in a reciprocal manner.

Review:

My overall review for Wicked Fox is four and a half stars out of five. I really enjoyed learning about Korean Mythology while embarking on a fast-paced read. I would recommend this book to fans of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson Series or American Panda by Gloria Chao. Thanks for Reading! :)
