Summary:
Tension and speculation reach a crescendo in the conclusion to Marissa Meyer's acclaimed Renegades series. Nova Artino has dedicated her whole life to usurping the Renegades, a council comprised of super-powered human beings. In order to ensure their demise, Nova has been infiltrating Renegade headquarters as a spy, tactfully observing her enemies' political strategies and reporting them to the Anarchists, her fellow combatants in crime. Nova thought her plan was flawless; until Adrian Everhart came along to cloud her intentions. Now, Nova is torn between two worlds; both seemingly incompatible with the other. She must choose where to fully place her allegiance, before time serves to destroy everyone she cares about.
Plot:
This book brought along a bittersweet read. Its previous predecessors served to completely steal my heart, offering me a unique storyline unlike any book I've read before. Though I am sad to see this series end, I could not be happier with the ending. Meyers' blend of infinite suspense and light-hearted comic relief perfectly balances the complexity of the story's plot line; its never quite clear which opposing side will triumph at the end, compelling the reader to endlessly ponder over the possibilities for a truly happy ending. Supernova's plot line was both witty and well-crafted, creating a definite sense of contented equilibrium with the reader's mindset.
Characters:
Meyer's composition of character traits is pure genius. It is truly impossible to support one side over their opponents, a feat that strengthens the troubling dilemma Nova faces throughout the novel. Truthfully speaking, it is rare to feel such honest emotion when reading about a cast of characters, causing one to form a bond that is formidably unbreakable.
Setting:
Meyers' descriptive settings truly set this book apart from its fellow counterparts. Each detail creates a realistic aroma within the book's atmosphere, connecting the reader to both the mundane and fantastical properties of the book.
Review:
Needless to say, Supernova was my favorite read out of the Renegade series. I would recommend this book/series to all fans of comic books or contemporary reads (especially if you enjoy works by Morgan Matson). Thanks for reading :)
